Since its inception in 1996, the Silicon Valley Chapter is particularly concerned about young girls who have not had the opportunity, encouragement, exposure and/or resources to access career information, especially in science and technology. In 2000 the chapter launched the P:SMT program. The focus is on minority girls in 4th – 8th grades. This is the age group least likely to receive access to math and science programs that will help shape their plans for higher education.

The Pathfinder: Science, Math and Technology (P:SMT) Scholarship program helps girls develop an appreciation for math, science and technology. Our goal is to encourage young girls to prepare for careers in the interdependent high-tech economy and global scientific community. Through the generous support of local individuals, businesses and organizations, the Chapter serviced over 120 young girls at Technology Day and sent 35 scholarship recipients to camp this past summer.

Plans for 2012 include sending 160 girls grades 4 - 8 to two one-day camps and 35 girls (or more) to local camps that stress the goals and values of the P:SMT Scholarship program. You may click here to view or download the application.
