History of NCBW
National Background
The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. (NCBW) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to community service, leadership development and socio-economic advancement of African-American women. The Coalition, which now has 63 chapters in 25 states and the District of Columbia, exceeds 7,000 women with a broad range of skills, professions and backgrounds.
NCBW was founded in 1981 by a small group in New York City to address the problems and opportunities facing African American women. Calling themselves the Coalition of 100 Black Women, they initiated programs to address issues such as the African American family, career advancement, political and economic empowerment, and leadership.

SVC Chapter Background
NCBW, Silicon Valley Chapter is to serve as an advocacy organization that seeks to empower women of African descent through programs that meet their diverse needs in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. The Chapter was chartered on April 4, 1996.
The Chapter founded the P:SMT Program in 2000 for students to attend our P:SMT (Pathfinder: Science, Mathematics, and Technology) scholarship program. Our members also advocate on behalf of women's health issues, education, and political awareness. The Chapter collaborates with other community organizations to develop inclusive projects that benefit the community.
The Silicon Valley Chapter is a tax-exempt organization, receiving support from local corporations, foundations, and federal agencies. In addition, a substantial portion of the annual budget is received from membership dues and fundraising efforts.
